Stroke is a chronic disease caused by cerebral hemorrhage or cerebral infarction.

Considering that stroke survivors often suffer from abnormal coupling between shoulder and elbow joint movements, pathological synergy can be regarded as a marker of the patient's functional status

In this study, a new evaluation method was proposed to objectively quantify the upper limb motor function of patients with hemiplegia after stroke

    Patients undergo system evaluation test

In order to explore the kinematics and muscle characteristics in normal and pathological motion modes, all experiments were synchronized to collect kinematic and electrophysiological data

    Classification algorithm steps

Since the human arm can be simplified into a three-segment motion chain, a seven-degree-of-freedom upper limb model is established, and the joint angles of the seven main movements of shoulder internal and external rotation, shoulder flexion/extension, shoulder adduction/abduction, and elbow flexion/extension are calculated.

After statistical feature extraction and motion collaborative quantification, two types of monomodal classifiers were created

Considering that the evaluation system can identify pathological movements with a high degree of accuracy, it is further explored whether this method can quantitatively analyze the upper extremity movement injuries of patients with hemiplegia after stroke

In conclusion, the proposed evaluation system has the potential to provide valuable information for clinical decision-making and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment methods for patients with upper extremity hemiplegia after stroke

Future research will explore the formulation of rehabilitation strategies based on the evaluation results to further verify the evaluation system
