Biologists at RUDN University confirmed that a drug called oxymethylene ketone can inhibit the inflammatory response in astrocytes (an important glial cell of the central nervous system), so it can be used to develop targets for the Alzheimer’s Medications for Moer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
All pathological processes of the nervous system, such as neurodegenerative diseases, injury or poisoning, are related to inflammation.
A team of biologists at RUDN University and colleagues at Lomonosov Moscow State University confirmed that the intensity of inflammation can be reduced by limiting the number of anti-inflammatory molecules produced by astrocytes.
"Astrocytes can synthesize hyaluronic acid, which is one of the main components of the extracellular matrix of the brain.
The team studied the effects of oxymethylene ketone on astrocytes in rat brain cell cultures.
Facts have proved that oxymethylene ketone can inhibit the production of anti-inflammatory molecules: tumor necrosis factor α, interleukins IL-6 and IL-1β, and lipoproteins.
