Important progress has been made in the breeding of new varieties of broccoli in the Jiangsu Province seed industry revitalization project

In order to promote the smooth implementation of the Jiangsu Province seed industry revitalization project "Breeding of New Varieties of High-quality Multi-resistance Characteristic Broccoli" (JBGS(2021)077), on October 25, the kale germplasm innovation team of the Institute of Vegetables of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences went to the experimental base of Zhenjiang Xinyuanda Horticultural Technology Co.
, Ltd.
to screen and evaluate
the new combination of autumn heat-resistant broccoli selected by the project research group.

 

This batch was identified as a new combination
of heat-resistant broccoli sown on July 20 and ripe for about 65 days.
Project leader Zeng Aisong, associate researcher, and researcher Pan Yueping, chief breeding expert of Zhenjiang Xinyuanda Horticultural Technology Co.
, Ltd.
, conducted detailed investigation and evaluation of each combination, from the combination of flower bulb shape, bud color, bud grain size, bud grain uniformity, flower bulb compactness, single ball weight and other important commercial indicators, to the group plant consistency, disease resistance, stress resistance, strict screening and evaluation
of each combination.
After comprehensive index evaluation, two new combinations with excellent performance were screened, and the selected combinations were equal to or better than the cold tolerance of the control variety in terms of appearance and commercial properties, and the consistency and yield of the overall flower bulb were better than the control
.

 

After the field investigation, the members of the project research team sorted out and discussed the identification of the new combination of broccoli in this stubble, and affirmed
the performance of the emerging new combination.
The discussion decided that the next step would be to continue to carry out multi-site trials of the new combinations screened to conduct a broader identification and evaluation
of their wide suitability and disease resistance.
At the same time, the research team discussed
the sharing mechanism of the broccoli Ogura cytoplasmic male infertility recovery line created by the project.
