As an important special economic aquaculture fish in China, eel is favored by consumers because of its fresh and tender meat, less intermuscular spines and high nutritional val.

Researcher Sun Yuhua's team from the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences isolated and cultured germinal stem cells from the ovary, intergonad and testis of the e.

The researchers transplanted the isolated and cultured fGSCs into the zebrafish gonads from which the primordial germ cells had been removed, and found Vasa -positive germ cells derived from the eel after 3 months , suggesting that the transplanted fGSCs had successfully colonized and differentiated in the zebrafish gonads, further indicating that the eel - Formation of chimeric gonads in zebrafis.

Researcher Sun Yuhua of the Institute of Hydrobiology is the corresponding author of the paper, and associate researcher Sun Xiaoyun is the first auth.
