Industry insiders predict that due to declining production and rising demand, global frozen pollock prices are expected to hit a new high this year, and the price of PBO (boneless) fillets may exceed $5,000/ton
    .

    Torunn Halhjem, U.
    S.
sales manager for Russian producer Gidrostroy, told UCN that despite rising PBO production in Russia, shrinking U.
    S.
raw material production and shrinking processing capacity in China, PBO prices are likely to rise to $5,000/t or more in the second half of the year
    .

"Based on 2019 consumption data, the global market capacity is over 550,000 tonnes, and this year's pollock block production will be 100,000 tonnes less than in 2019.

PBO prices were around $3,850/t in the B quarter last year, and in the A quarter this year.
    up to $4,450/t
    ," Halhjem said
    .

Historically, the price reached $4,500/t only in 2009, when the global financial crisis led to a continuous decline in the following years before bottoming out in 2017
    .

Halhjem expects total fillet production in China, the US and Russia to be around 450,000 tonnes in 2022, down from 475,000 tonnes in 2021
    .

Among them, Russian production will increase by 38% to 142,000 tons (source: Russian Pollock Fishing Association), and the year-to-date production has reached 71,000 tons, including 60,000 tons of PBO, 10,000 tons of PBI (with thorns) and 1,000 tons deepskin products
    .
Last year, Russia's fish fillet production was about 103,000 tons
    .

Alaska's production is about 125,000 tons
    .
According to statistics from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), as of April 10, the U.
    S.
quarter A has produced 56,000 tons, including 32,000 tons of PBO block frozen, 20,000 tons of deepskin block frozen, 3,000 tons of PBO fillets and 1,000 tons of PBI fillets
    .

Due to the increase in domestic production in Russia, H&G (de-headed and dirty) raw materials exported to China will be greatly reduced
    .
Halhjem expects Russian H&G production to be about 380,000 tons in 2022, a 29% decrease from 2021 and a 36% decrease from 2020
    .
    Year-to-date, Russia's H&G production is about 280,000 tons
    .

Due to the impact of the epidemic, some Dalian processing enterprises have not resumed work and production
    .
Halhjem predicts that China's exports of frozen pollock and fish fillets in 2022 will be about 145,000 tons, a decrease of 22% from 2021, a decrease of 29% from 2020, and a decrease of 47% from 2019
