India invests in 5 gigawatt wind power projects

Nearly 11 months after the second national wind tender held by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) hosted the first meeting
of the National Transmission Commission.
The commission approved the construction of transmission infrastructure in two states, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, to support wind projects
allocated in SECI auctions.

Due to the poor response of the project developers, the fifth national SECI wind energy bid was withdrawn, and the National Transmission Committee meeting was held

Of the 2 GW of capacity offered, the project developer proposed setting up only 1.
2 GW of capacity, raising concerns
about the lack of transmission infrastructure to generate electricity.

In June 2018, the decision
to set up transformers and other infrastructure for the award-winning wind energy project in Gujarat.
The entire project to support a 4 gigawatt wind energy project would require an investment of 35.
6 billion rupees ($50.
8 million).

The timeline for the project has not yet been announced

Similarly, the decision to build infrastructure in Tamil Nadu was made
at the end of April 2018.
It is understood that the two projects will only support about 5 GW of phased capacity
between October 2018 and April 2020.
