India plans to launch its first tender for offshore wind projects

The plan released by India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to establish the country's first offshore wind project has attracted many domestic and foreign companies

Last month, a total of 34 companies, including project developers and wind turbine manufacturers, participated in pre-bid discussions
with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The ministry is planning to build a gigawatt-scale offshore wind farm
off the coast of Gujarat.

Notable players from India include Sterlite Power Grid, Greenko, Mytrah Energy, Inox Wind, Suzlon Energy and ReNew Power Ventures

India has announced short- and medium-term targets
for offshore wind projects.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced earlier this year plans to install 5 GW of offshore wind capacity
by 2022.
By 2030, the ministry has set a target of
30 gigawatts.
As of July 31, 2018, India's total wind capacity was 34.

There is no doubt that offshore wind energy development in India started late

Since 2010, the ministry has been considering launching the country's first offshore wind project

However, the lack of reliable resource assessment studies, lengthy approval processes, lack of transmission infrastructure, and government changes are all delaying progress
in this area.
