A senior official at India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently said that India will set the installed capacity of all renewable energy technologies at 500 GW
by 2030.
The installed capacity target for the entire power sector is 850 GW

If the Indian government classifies large hydropower projects as renewable energy projects, the share may be slightly higher

Currently, hydropower projects with an installed capacity of more than 25 MW are not considered renewable energy projects
in India.
If all hydropower projects are indeed reclassified as renewables, the total renewable capacity could reach 575 GW by the end of the next decade, equivalent to 72%
of the total installed capacity base.
The 500 GW target is divided into 350 GW of solar, 140 GW of wind and 10 GW of other technologies
.
This medium-term goal has crucial short-term milestones
in 2022.
India plans to have 100 GW of solar, 60 GW of wind and 15 GW of other renewables by
March 31, 2022.
This target was ensured by March 31, 2022 through
tenders.
Over an eight-year period between 2020 and 2028, 325 GW of renewable energy capacity
will be tendered.
This will include tenders for 250 GW of solar, 70 GW of wind and 5 GW of other renewable energy technologies
.
Wind capacity may also include 30 GW of offshore wind capacity
.
As a result, India will tender for 30 GW of solar and 10 GW of wind every year for eight years
