According to India's Public Works Department (PWD), the 12-kilometre solar bike lane corridor from Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad, which is also the first solar bike lane corridor
in the country, will open in March next year.
"This dual-use project will provide shelter from rain and sunlight for cyclists and pedestrians, while generating a lot of clean energy by reducing carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants," said a senior PWD official.

According to the plan, the sloping pillars will be erected at the junction of the sidewalk and bike path, and 4.
5-meter-wide solar panels
will be installed on it.

PWD plans to recoup the full cost
of the project within five years by selling excess electricity.
The government's budget report mentions that the tender for the project will be completed by October 31, and the work will start on January 15 and will end
in March 2019.
