On January 5th FiS, rajif Gandhi Aquaculture Centre (RGCA), the research and development unit of the Indian Maritime Export Development Agency (MPEDA), signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Oceanographic Research of the University of the Pacific, Hawaii, to supply South American white prawn shrimp (PPL) to farmers in Andra. the
outbreak has caused an eight-month gap in South American white prawns, for which MPEDA supplies shrimp seedlings through its breeding centre in Bimunypatnam, with the first batch of 25,000 shrimp without specific pathogens (SPF) to be shipped by the end of January.
Gandhi Aquaculture Centre (RGCA) will receive prawns from the Institute of Oceanology at the University of the Pacific in Hawaii, which pioneered the production of SPF South American white prawns.
Shrimps are farmed under strict biosecurity conditions and have passed SPF certification from the Aquaculture Pathology Laboratory and the Central Aquaculture Pathology Laboratory at the University of Arizona, USA, and the shrimp has adapted to the weather and environmental conditions in India.
MPA will have a mortality rate of less than 2% during the transport of these shrimp seedlings.
