Ir J Med Sci: Nursing programs based on reminiscence therapy can alleviate post-stroke cognitive impairment, anxiety and depression in patients with acute ischemic stroke

Cognitive and mental disorders are common health problems in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS)
.

In a randomized controlled study, researchers evaluated the benefits of the Reminiscence Therapy-Based Care (RTBC) program in recovering cognitive impairment, reducing anxiety and depression in patients with AIS.

Stroke

A total of 130 AIS patients were recruited in the study, and they were randomly assigned to the RTBC group or control group 1:1 for a 12-month intervention
.

Evaluate Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A/HADS-A) at month 0 (M0), M3, 6, 9 and 12 months.

 

As a result, compared with the control group, RTBC increased the MMSE score and MoCA score, and reduced the percentage of cognitive impairment patients assessed by the MoCA score at M12
.

Compared with the control group, RTBC reduced the HADS-A score at M12, but did not reduce the percentage or severity of anxiety patients at M12; in addition, compared with the control group, RTBC significantly reduced SAS at M9 and M12 Score, as well as the percentage and severity of anxiety patients at M12

In summary, RTBC can help reduce cognitive impairment, anxiety and depression in the management of AIS patients after stroke
