Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has officially launched the bidding of 7 photovoltaic power generation projects, with a total installed capacity of 755 MW
    .

At present, the ministry has invited companies to pre-qualify these projects, the two largest PV projects reaching 300 MW and 225 MW respectively, located in the city of Karbala and Babylon province
    in central Iraq.
The other 100 MW of solar power will be located in two 50 MW power generation facilities in Wasit Governorate
    in eastern Iraq.

Muthanna province, located in the south of the country and on the border with Saudi Arabia, will have two photovoltaic power generation facilities with an installed capacity of 50 MW and 30 MW, and a 50 MW power generation facility
will be built in the capital of Qadisi province.

The Iraqi government said it expects the projects, which represent the country's first diversification of the energy mix, to be operational
by the end of next year.
However, the Ministry has not yet published detailed information on the bidding process, such as when and where
    the solicitation documents were issued.

Frost & Sullivan has released a report that by 2028, Iraq has the potential to reach more than 5 GW of installed photovoltaic capacity, plus an estimated 1 GW of wind energy and 200 MW of bioenergy, enough to meet 10% of the country's electricity needs
    .

The agency also said that Iraq's renewable energy program has received the support of the World Bank, International Renewable Energy Support
from IEA and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, as well as UNDP.

In 2017, Iraq's installed power generation capacity (mainly based on fossil fuels) was about 11.
3 GW, which is insufficient to meet the estimated demand of 17 GW
