On May 21, 2022, Dai Lei 's research group from the Synthetic Microbiome Research Center of Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shenzhen Institute of Synthetic Biology Innovation published a paper on ISME Journal entitled: Ecological dynamics of the gut microbiome in response to dietary Research paper on fibe.

Dai Lei Ecological dynamics of the gut microbiome in response to dietary fiber

Based on the time series data of the gut microbiome, the research team analyzed the dynamic changes of the gut microbiota under the regulation of dietary fiber, laying an important foundation for systematically understanding the ecological laws of the gut microbiome and developing corresponding precise nutritional regulation metho.

    Liu Hongbin Liao Chen

Dietary fiber has a profound impact on human health, and high dietary fiber intake can reduce the risk of obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer and other diseas.

The regulation of gut microbiota is an important way for dietary fiber to exert its health benefi.

Figure 1: Impact of microbial ecology on gut microbiota responses

The research team analyzed the ecological mechanism of gut microbiota response to dietary fiber intervention through an ecological dynamics mod.

The research team further used the ecological model to analyze the time series data of the human gut microbiome under the intervention of dietary fiber, and successfully inferred Bifidobacterium adolescentis with the function of inulin metaboli.

Aiming at the personalized response phenomenon of gut microbiota under dietary fiber intervention, the study combined time series data and mathematical models to deeply analyze the ecological laws of gut microbio.

Introduction of PI and research group:

    .

The main research direction of Dai Lei's group is the ecology and evolution of the host symbiotic microbio.

It is planned to recruit 1-2 postdoctoral fellows and 1-2 visiting students with relevant research backgrounds in microbiology, synthetic biology, bioinformatics,e.
