A study led by Professor Shay Efrati of Tel Aviv University in Israel and part of a team of researchers at Shamir Medical Center found that older people receive 90 minutes of pure oxygen therapy five days a week in pressurized rooms, delaying their aging process after three months, local media reported. Researchers say they have successfully reversed the body's aging process with the help of oxygen alone. It is reported that through peer review published in the journal Aging related research papers focus on whether the experiment can reverse the biological aging of two key indicators: DNA telomere shortening and the accumulation of eventual aging cells.Telomeres are the ends of chromosomes. Telomeres consist of repeated sequences of non-coded DNA that act as buffers to protect chromosomes from damage during replication. However, each time the cells replicate, the telomeres are affected and become shorter and shorter. Once telomeres reach a certain length, cells cannot replicate, leading to cell aging, and aging, dysfunctional cells eventually lead to cognitive impairment or other age-related disabilities, and even diseases such as cancer. The experiment involved 35 healthy volunteers over the age of 64 who received hyperbaric oxygen therapy. In the experiment, the researchers provided participants with pure oxygen with pressure above an absolute atmospheric pressure in the pressurized chamber to increase the amount of oxygen in their body tissues. Every 20 minutes, they are asked to remove the mask for 5 minutes to return oxygen to normal levels. During this time, the researchers observed fluctuations in free oxygen concentrations at cellular levels that were interpreted as hypoxia. In other words, repeated intermittent high oxygen (elevated oxygen levels) induce numerous media and cellular mechanisms in the body, which usually occur when oxygen deficiency (lower oxygen levels) occurs. Efrati calls this phenomenon the high-oxygen-low-oxygen paradox. He says it's important to produce fluctuations in free oxygen concentrations, which cause cells to regenerate.Attention, speed of information processing, and executive function usually decline with age, and more than 50 percent of people over the age of 60 are deeply concerned about aging. The real effects of reversing aging include improvements in attention, information processing speed, and executive function. Studies have shown that at the cellular level, participants' bodies changed as much in experiments as they did 25 years ago.Efratti has studied the aging process for more than 10 years and has clinics in Florida. He says studies have shown that the cellular basis of the aging process is reversible, and the findings offer hope and open the door for young scientists to treat aging as a reversible disease. In addition, the study will help people find ways to monitor telomere length and develop drugs that help telomeres resmod when needed. In the long run, the duration of the effects of pure oxygen therapy on reversing aging has not yet been determined, but there is a long-term possibility, Efrati said. The reason for this is that people with shorter telomeres are known to die earlier. It should be noted that the study has drawbacks, including a limited sample size. In addition, Efratti cautions that their experiments are conducted in a scientific, monitored hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber and should not be tried at home. Because there are many impurities in the air environment of the home, which is not the method used in the study, it is not only ineffective but also dangerous. (Science and Technology Daily)
