Mitsui Chemicals expands MDI production capacity in Korea
Mitsui Chemicals recently announced that it will expand the production capacity of its polyurethane raw material plant in Korea and will invest JPY 40 billion to renovate and expand
its local production line.
Upon completion of the project, the local production capacity will be increased to 610,000 tons per year, an increase of about 50% over the current level, to meet the growing demand
for high-performance residential insulation materials and sound-absorbing materials for electric vehicles (EVs).
The expanded product is diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI).
The capacity expansion project is implemented by Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, Mitsui Chemicals' holding company in Yeosu, South Korea, and is responsible for local production and sales, and is expected to be completed and put into operation
in January 2024.
