Issue 15 2016 - ExxonMobil plans to expand SantopreneTM TPV capacity

ExxonMobil today announced that it will expand its special elastomer plant in Newport, Wales, which is expected to be completed
in late 2017.
The company said the plan will increase production capacity of SantopreneTM thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), a high-performance elastomer used in automotive, industrial and consumer applications
, by 25 percent.

Kurt Aerts, deputy head of ExxonMobil's specialty elastomers and butyl rubber division, said the investment in capacity expansion will strengthen the company's leadership position to continue producing high-quality products
that combine flexibility and durability for customers around the world.

Santoprene TPV enables producers to reprocess scrap and leftovers, bringing environmental benefits
by reducing energy consumption and waste.
For decades, Santoprene elastomers have been successfully used in a wide range of applications, from medical facilities to a wide range of automotive components – including body weatherproofing materials

Compared to thermoset rubber and other thermoplastic elastomers, Santoprene TPVs have a lower density and can reduce part of the product's weight
