The new EU BPR amendment regulation comes into effect
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has announced that the EU's new Biocidal (BPR) amendment regulation ((EU) No 334/2014) has entered into force
on April 25 this year.
Compared with the old regulations, the revised regulations mainly have the following changes: (1) the concept of biocidal product families is newly defined, and various product types with similar risk levels and functions in the same family are also included; (2) clarified the concept of a transition period that allows new biocide-treated articles to be placed on the market until September 1, 2016 until the corresponding active substance or product type is approved for use; (3) the introduction of the concepts of "substance supplier" and "product supplier" under the framework of Part 95 of the BPR Regulation, allowing formulators to apply for inclusion in the list of qualified suppliers under Part 95; (4) expand the scope of mandatory sharing of active substance review planning data under paragraph 95 of the BPR regulation to include information on environmental impacts in addition to toxicological and ecotoxicological data; (5) set a data protection period for the information submitted by the simplified and approved products; (6) further develop the role of the ECHA Secretariat to provide support and assistance
to EU Member States in various regulatory and enforcement activities.
