Sumitomo Chemical withdrew from the EPDM business
Sumitomo Chemical recently announced that it will stop production of 40,000 tons/year of synthetic rubber EPDM rubber (EPDM) at its Chiba plant and terminate sales
of the product at the end of March 2023.
Sumitomo Chemical said that to date, the company has been working to enhance the competitiveness
of its business by increasing the added value of its products and reducing costs.
However, for more than 50 years since the company's EPDM production line was put into operation in 1970, manufacturing equipment has deteriorated and maintenance and repair costs have increased year by year, so it is difficult to secure stable income
in the medium to long term.
Sumitomo Chemical said that after exiting the EPDM rubber production and sales business, it will continue to allocate management resources centered on competitive fields and achieve sustainable growth
by creating new value.
