KerfCase, an American smartphone accessory manufacturer, has released a wireless charger
produced with Covestro's advanced composite technology.
The wireless charger was recently unveiled
during the 2019 International Consumer Electronics Expo (CES).
This wireless charger combines
natural wood with composite materials.
Natural wood is used as the material for the top panel of the charger to support the smartphone
.
One-piece structural parts made of Maezio continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites from Covestro are used as support housings below the contact surface for an aesthetically pleasing and elegant visual experience
.
The composite has a natural carbon fiber unidirectional texture and a very similar appearance
to wood.
At the same time, it is very lightweight and has a metallic texture that complements
the natural materials used in KerfCase.
At the end of its life cycle, the material can be recycled into a chopped fiber composite for use in the injection molding process, making it a sustainable material
with a proven reputation.
Paul Hassett, Market Development Manager for Thermoplastic Composites North America, Covestro, said: "Partnering with KerfCase is a testament to the power of composite technology to enhance the everyday consumer experience, and we look forward to seeing more surprises
from it.
