KRAIBURG TPE today announced that it has developed a new thermoplastic elastomer hybrid (TEH) that closes the performance gap
between conventional thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) and conventional thermoset elastomer compounds.
The company's TEH compounds can be tailored to meet customers' specific applications
.
When combined with selected elastomers, these compounds provide the same functionality as elastomers while maintaining the good processability
of TPEs.
Compared to conventional elastomer blends, the new TEH can be economically processed
on injection molding machines for industrial thermoplastics.
The thermoplastic processability of TEH compounds can reduce cycle times by up to 80% compared to rubber and can be used in parts
of engine covers, sumps, filler and oil caps, and temperature control units.
Dirk Butschkau, Head of Business Development EMEA at KRAIBURG TPE, said: "In order to bridge the gap between established properties between TPEs and elastomers, especially in terms of heat resistance, we are exploring
a strictly application- and customer-specific approach.
We determine the proportions
of each compound based on their specific compatibility with elastomers and thermoplastics and suitability for the desired temperature and mechanical properties.
This approach results in a customized TEH
with a fully crosslinked elastomer component.
