Japanese and Malaysian oil companies cooperate to establish a green hydrogen supply chain
Recently, Japan's largest oil company, Eneos, announced that it will work with Petronas to establish a green hydrogen supply chain to controlCO2 emissions
.
The two parties convert hydrogen produced in Malaysia into highly efficient methylcyclohexane (MCH) for transportation to a refinery
in Eneos, Japan.
To this end, Eneos signed a memorandum of understanding
with PGNESB, a subsidiary of Petronas.
The two companies will commence production ofH2, fabrication and shipment of MCH
in Malaysia.
In addition, Eneos will consider using MCH to produce and use hydrogen at refineries in Japan, as well as supplying hydrogen
to adjacent thermal power plants and steel mills.
According to Eneos, the project will have access to a stable and competitive source of hydrogen – it plans to utilize unused by-product hydrogen at the Petronas petrochemical plant, which has an annual capacity
to produce tens of thousands of tons of by-product hydrogen.
