BP plans to build a new plastics recycling pilot plant in the United States, BP (BP), which recently said it plans to build a $25 million pilot plant
in the United States to test Infinia, a technology designed to chemically convert PET waste into virgin monomer feedstock
.
The new pilot plant is planned for an R&D center in Naperville, Illinois, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2020 to continuously validate the technology
.
BP says that if the Infinia technology is commercially successful, it will reduce the process of recycling PET downward into single-life products and save more plastic waste
.
The technology also allows raw materials to be processed into recyclable terephthalic acid and recyclable monoethylene glycol, making them interchangeable
with conventional hydrocarbon feedstock production.
