Bayer Material Science recently presented new grades of polyurethane materials Baytec and Bayfit at the Fakuma trade fair in Friedrichshafen
, Germany.
These two special polyurethane system materials are already being used by Volvo to produce hoods
for its four-cylinder diesel engines.
Soft "landing" in case of impact on the hood: The resulting hood is elastic and acts as an impact buffer to reduce the impact of
impacts.
During the production process, the spray elastomer Baytec is first injected into the mold, a material that ensures the desired stability and smooth surface
of the component.
The foam system Bayfit® is then added to the same mold, which effectively reduces engine noise
.
The sandwich structure formed by these two materials is elastic and demonstrates a huge advance in
pedestrian protection technology.
