Solvay Engineering Plastics has highlighted a series of innovative solutions such as its Technyl to replace metal with high-performance engineering plastics, demonstrating the huge environmental benefits
that lightweight vehicles can bring.

Solvay's team of experts compared the eco-benefits of Technyl and recycled aluminum engine mounts in a life cycle assessment, and showed that metal replacement solutions can significantly increase environmental benefits by 25%~70%.

。 It showcased a new engine mount cast by Trelleborg Viebback for PSA Peugeot Citroën, a structural component that has been in high-volume production since 2012 and is material-optimized through Solvay's leading MMI Technyl Design service to meet the critical performance requirements of impact resistance and fatigue strength, while reducing weight by 40% and production costs by 15%,
respectively.

Thermoplastics offer some significant performance advantages in automotive manufacturing and use, such as greater design freedom, longer mold life and better thermal insulation, while also reducing noise, vibration and sonic harshness
