    Nippon Iwatani Industrial Co.
    , Ltd.
(Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture), Toyota Tsusho Co.
    , Ltd.
(Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture), and Nichiwa Holdings Co.
    , Ltd.
(Nippon Wave HD/Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) announced on December 12 that they will consider developing a low-carbon hydrogen production business
using waste plastic gasification equipment near the Port of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture.
The goal is to start producing 11,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year (80,000 tonnes of waste plastic recycled annually)
    in the mid-2020s.

In addition, the hydrogen produced by the project is said to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85% compared to hydrogen made from natural gas
    .

Hydrogen production from waste plastics enables a stable and inexpensive hydrogen supply

The three companies, which participated in a commissioned project by NEDO in December 2021, have been conducting "investigation to establish a regional low-carbon hydrogen model through the gasification and recycling of waste plastics in urban areas"
    .
The survey results show that Central Japan has great potential
for the recycling, hydrogen production and utilization of waste plastics.

Based on the results of this survey, the three companies have signed a basic agreement to consider cooperation in low-carbon hydrogen production, and will start basic design business
    as soon as possible.
By using waste plastics in hydrogen production, hydrogen can be supplied stably and cheaply, contributing to the use of hydrogen in power plants, various transportation, and port facilities where CO2 emissions need to be reduced, and decarbonizing
    plants.

Through this collaboration, the three companies will promote the application of hydrogen in various fields to realize a hydrogen society, contribute to
the realization of a decarbonized society and promote resource recycling.
