Recycling should now be an important part of our lives

    .

Jaguar Land Rover recently revealed that the company plans to use ECONYL nylon to develop high-quality interiors made from marine and landfill waste

    .

The company's next-generation vehicles will feature floor mats and interiors made from the fabric, which is sourced from recycled industrial plastics, clothing makers' leftovers or discarded fishing nets in the ocean

    .

Created by Aquafil, a global leader in the synthetic fiber industry, this recycled nylon is already used by fashion designers, sportswear and luxury watch brands to make products such as handbags, backpacks or watch straps

    .

The company claims it recycles around 40,000 tonnes of waste from around the world each year, a process that reduces nylon's global warming impact by 90 percent

    .

ECONYL is produced at Aquafil's state-of-the-art processing centre, where waste is analysed, treated and prepared

    .

Any resulting by-products, such as metallic materials or copper sulfate used to prevent seaweed from growing on fishing nets, are removed and sent to other recycling companies

    .

The recycled nylon polymer has the same chemical composition and strength properties as conventional materials, which means it can be easily processed into fibers for carpet floors and textiles

    .

This means future Jaguar and Land Rover models will feature eco-friendly and sustainable interior items, while also maintaining their high quality and durability
    .

The Range Rover Evoque has used premium sustainable eucalyptus textiles
    .
And Jaguar's all-electric I-PACE and Range Rover Velar are available with Kvadrat interior trim, a high-quality fabric that combines sturdy wool and suede cloth made from recycled plastic bottles

    .

"We are very focused on creating new sustainable materials, using the latest and most innovative technologies and textiles
    .
Minimizing waste, reusing materials and reducing carbon emissions are at the heart of our 'zero emissions' mission

    .
Jaguar Land Rover Interior Systems Premium Engineer Adrian Iles said: "This groundbreaking materials research is one of the key ways we achieve this goal and is an integral part of the design services we offer our customers

    .

Destination Zero is Jaguar Land Rover's latest internal strategy focused on a future of zero accidents, zero emissions and zero congestion
    .
As part of this strategy, the company has achieved carbon neutrality across all of its UK plants and will continue to develop zero-emission powertrains and advanced safety features for the next generation of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles

    .

While much remains to be done in protecting the environment, we hope that Jaguar Land Rover's use of sustainable materials sets an example for other carmakers to benefit from the use of this fabric
