Women with a positive family history of breast cancer (FHBC) in first- degree relatives (mother, sister) have a 2- to 4-fold increased risk of breast cancer

Women with a positive family history of breast cancer (FHBC) in first- degree relatives (mother, sister) have a 2- to 4-fold increased risk of breast cancer

Briefly, family history of breast cancer (FHBC) and breast density on mammography are independent risk factors for breast cancer, but the relationship between FHBC and breast density in premenopausal women is unclear

This single-center cohort study investigated two retrospective cohorts: a discovery cohort of 375 premenopausal women and a validation cohort of 14,040 premenopausal women

This single-center cohort study investigated two retrospective cohorts: a discovery cohort of 375 premenopausal women and a validation cohort of 14,040 premenopausal women

The primary outcome was a quantitative measure of breast density expressed as volume percent density using Volpara (discovery set) and BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) breast density (validation set)

Findings showed that the discovery and validation sets had similar characteristics among the 14,415 premenopausal women included in the study

In the validation dataset, FHBC-positive women were more likely to have dense breasts than women without FHBC (BI-RADS 3-4)

In the validation dataset, FHBC-positive women were more likely to have dense breasts than women without FHBC (BI-RADS 3-4)

In conclusion, in this cohort study, FHBC was positively associated with mammography in premenopausal women
