Researchers from the Mount Sinai Medical System found that the recent sharp drop in lung cancer mortality is related to the early diagnosis of lung cancer, which indicates the need to strengthen screening to save lives

According to this study, the early diagnosis of lung cancer is due to the increased use of computed tomography (CT) on the one hand, and the follow-up of potential cancers found in the scan on the other

    Professor Raja M.

In the United States, more than 200,000 people are diagnosed with lung cancer each year, and it is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths

This study retrospectively analyzed 312,382 patients with non-small cell lung cancer in the SEER project

During the same period, the early diagnosis rate rose from 26.

In 2013, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommended that high-risk individuals be screened for lung cancer through CT every year

    Dr.

Professor Claudia Henschke of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai believes that this study emphasizes the need to screen eligible high-risk individuals.

"If all eligible people receive a low-dose CT scan, the radiation dose is equivalent to receiving a mammogram once a year, we can save up to 80% of patients," said Dr.
