Recently, the Japan Atomic Energy Development Agency, Hitachi-General Nuclear Energy and Sugino Machine signed a joint research agreement to develop laser processing technology
for nuclear reactor decommissioning.
The Japan Atomic Energy Development Agency is currently building a Naraha Remote Control Technology Development Center in Fukushima Prefecture, which is scheduled to be completed and put into operation
in April 2016.
The three parties plan to use the center to collaborate on the development of technology for removing fuel debris during the decommissioning of
the nuclear reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Hitachi-GM, a major supplier of boiling water reactors, is developing nuclear reactor decommissioning and decontamination technologies for the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, and Sugino Machine is developing remote control equipment and devices
that can operate in strong radiation environments.
