Japan releases draft new version of positive list of food contact materials

On December 24, 2021, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) released the latest revised draft of the positive list of food or food additive utensils, containers and packaging (UCP, i.

Since June 1, 2020, Japan has officially implemented the positive list management of UCP, and has revised and solicited opinions on the contents of the list many times

The scope of application of the UCP positive list includes synthetic resins and their additives (except colorants), which are mainly divided into 4 list tables

Compared with the positive list of the August 18, 2021 version, the main revisions in the December 24 version are as follows:

Some new substances have been added to the lists in this revision, and some previously allowed substances, such as fluorinated copolymers, have been deleted; at the same time, the names, CAS numbers and usage restrictions of substances have been partially revised and supplemented
