Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is recognized as an effective method of bariatric surgery, but insignificant weight loss may still be its main clinical problem.
Recently, a research article was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, an authoritative journal in the field of endocrine and metabolic diseases.
The study included 106 obese patients who underwent LSG.
Compared with patients with %TWL<34%, patients with %TWL higher than the median (≥34%) are younger, have lower fasting blood glucose and HbA1c, lower prevalence of hypertension, and lower impulse scale scores.
It can be seen that the baseline metabolic and psychological characteristics of patients are independently related to weight loss, and have a non-negligible effect on LSG response.
