Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is one of the most common malignant skin tumors, and its incidence has increased significantly in recent decades
    .

Although BCCs rarely metastasize, recurrent or incompletely resected tumors can cause significant morbidity

Surgical resection (conventional or microsurgery) is the treatment of choice for these tumors, and in high-risk basal cell carcinoma (BCC), microsurgery (MS) has high tissue preservation rates and low recurrence rates
    .

The Mohs technique is the most commonly used technique, with limited use of other MS techniques

This review aimed to assess the recurrence rate of basal cell carcinomas with different MS techniques
    .

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of PubMed, Lilacs, EMbase, Scope, Web of Science, CINHAL and Cochrane searching for relevant studies until March 2021

The recurrence rates of different MS techniques are low and appear to be similar
    .

However, the design of this review and the lack of preliminary studies directly comparing these techniques do not allow us to assert an advantage between them
