This article reports on a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), the change process of red half-moon nails during the course of the disease
    .

A 12-year-old male child complained of a two-week history of gross hematuria, mild fever, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension, accompanied by redness, swelling, and tenderness of the palm for a week
    .
At the time of examination, except for the left hand nail, there are half-moon-shaped red-violet bands around the distal edge of the crescent (Figure 1A and 1B)

    .

    diagnosis

After treatment, the patient's condition improved and was discharged two weeks later
    .
During the follow-up, interesting changes in the nails were found (Figure 2)

    .

The reason for the half-moon band presented here is puzzling.
It is obviously different from the previously described Lindsay nails or Terry nails, both of which are located at the far end of the nail
    .
This phenomenon is also different from the red crescent moon, which refers to the red discoloration at the proximal end of the nail, which can be seen in various body conditions

    .

However, in SLE pathology may be caused by vascular inflammation or micro thrombosis caused

This may represent a pathophysiological link between SLE and SARS-CoV-2 infection , for example, microvascular damage caused by immune response or immune complexes
