    Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a cardiovascular malformation caused by abnormal development of the fetal heart vessels
    .


    Endocardial cushion (EC) is a transitional structure that exists transiently during cardiac development.


    On January 28, 2022, the research group of Ji Guangju from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences published a research result entitled "ERp44 is required for endocardial cushion development by regulating VEGFA secretion in myocardium" online in " Cell Proliferation
    " .


    This study systematically elucidated that knockdown of ERp44 reduced VEGFA maturation and secretion, thereby prematurely terminating EndMT and leading to EC dysplasia


    ERp44 is a pH-regulated molecular chaperone protein belonging to the disulfide isomerase family
    .


    It not only regulates protein maturation and secretion, but also participates in the regulation of endoplasmic reticulum calcium and redox homeostasis


    ERp44 regulates EndMT process by affecting the maturation and secretion of VEGF in cardiomyocytes

    Researcher Ji Guangju from the Institute of Biophysics and Professor Cai Hong, director of the Laser Medicine Center of Beijing Air Force General Hospital, are the co-corresponding authors of the paper
