On April 6, US Eastern time, the Lancet magazine "The Lancet Psychiatry" (The Lancet Psychiatry) recently published the largest study to date.
More than one-third of COVID-19 cured patients have brain problems and are diagnosed with neurological or mental illness within six months of the infection.
This retrospective study, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIHR) Oxford Health Biomedical Research Center, analyzed 236,379 COVID-19 patients in the United States (over 10 years old, infected on and after January 20, 2020, December 13, 2020).

Among them, 17% of patients were diagnosed with anxiety, and 14% of patients suffered from mood disorders.
The researchers also said that if the statistics included inpatients, the proportion of patients with brain problems would rise to 39%.
In addition, the research team also compared the data of 1,05579 patients diagnosed with influenza and 236,038 patients diagnosed with any respiratory infections (including influenza) during the same period.
Taking into account basic health characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity, and underlying diseases, the risk of neurological and mental illness diagnosed in patients with new crown infection is 44% higher than that of influenza patients and 16% higher than that of patients with respiratory tract infections.
This means that compared with other influenza and respiratory diseases, the new crown infection does bring a higher risk of neurological and mental diseases.
The research team also admits that the research has limitations.
"This is real-world data collected from a large number of patients.
