Specialty chemicals company Lanxess' Polyurethane Materials (URE) business unit will present at the Polyurethane Manufacturers Association (PMA) annual meeting a new family of sustainable Adiprene® Green prepolymers, as well as advanced analytical techniques to support customers in determining the root cause of polyurethane failures
    .
The PMA will be held April 23-26 in Austin, Texas

    .

LANXESS will showcase the contribution of its new polyurethanes on its path to climate neutrality by 2040 around the sustainable Adiprene Green product range
    .
The product line currently consists of MDI-based prepolymers that, when processed with 1,4-butanediol (BDO), can reach a hardness range of 40A to 60D

    .
The Adiprene Green range utilizes starch-based polyether polyol feedstocks, and these products enable polyurethane processors to produce elastomers with up to 90% bio-based content, which can save up to 30% of greenhouse gases compared to fossil-derived polyurethanes

    .
In addition, George Brereton, Senior Chemist, Polyurethane Materials Portfolio, will share the further development of the Adiprene Green product range, including the combination of sustainability benefits with superior industrial hygiene based on LANXESS low free MDI and pPDI solutions

    .

Determining the root cause of premature polyurethane failure requires a combination of physical, mechanical, and chemical analysis
    .
Technical Services Specialist Matthew Sennett will review common tests as well as advanced methods to understand why polyurethanes perform poorly in real-world cases

    .

These cases will range from the most common material and processing issues to very extensive failure analysis requiring advanced mechanical and analytical techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
    .

The LANXESS Polyurethane Materials business unit is one of the world's leading suppliers of polyurethane systems for elastomers, coatings, adhesives and sealants, with a particular focus on solvent- and monomer-free material combinations and offers customers decades of experience.
Polyurethane chemistry knowledge, comprehensive application expertise and deep manufacturing experience
