To determine whether drinking tea contributed to more effective communication lines in the brain, the researchers surveyed 36 middle-aged and older people over the age of 60, 15 of whom drank tea regularly and 21 who drank little or no tea. Participants provided detailed information on their overall health, emotional psychology, lifestyle, etc., and received MRI scans and 12 neuropsycological function tests and cognitive function measurements.

DMN is a large network that connects multiple brain regions, and its important roles include self-awareness, the ability to condescension, moral reasoning, and imagining the future. After comparing the test results of two groups of people, the researchers found that the overall network of tea drinkers' brains was better, with more efficient functional and structural connections. Information processing can be performed more efficiently when connections between brain regions reflect stronger structured characteristics. The findings are published in the Journal of Aging.
