LyondellBasell has announced that it has taken another step towards its goal of advancing a circular economy by producing virgin-quality polymers from raw materials from plastic waste at its production site in Wesseling, Germany
    .
This feedstock is produced through the thermal conversion of plastic waste, converted into ethylene and propylene at LyondellBasell's production facility, and then processed into PP and PE in downstream plastics production units

    .
Before using raw materials from plastic waste for the first time, the company has successfully produced plastic materials from renewable feedstocks such as waste cooking oil, which help reduce CO2 over the product life cycle and reduce fossil feedstocks use

    .

Richard Roudeix, Senior Vice President, Olefins and Polyolefins, Europe, Middle East, Africa and India said: "Advancing a circular economy requires clear action, and by continuing to use these new feedstocks to produce polymers on a commercial scale, we are doing our part to help eliminate plastic waste and tackling climate change
    .
At the same time, we are expanding the range of sustainable solutions through the Circulen brand and the use of recycled content, giving customers a way to use recycled polymers in a variety of applications

    .

Products made from recycled and renewable raw materials will be marketed by LyondellBasell under the Circulen brand, with the aim of increasing the sustainability of the brand owner's consumer products
    .
They produce high-quality plastics for demanding applications such as food packaging and nutraceuticals

    .
The LyondellBasel facility that manufactures these products is certified to the ISCC PLUS standard

    .

LyondellBasell has pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its global operations by 15% by 2030 from 2015 levels and to produce and sell 2 million tonnes of recycled or renewable polymers annually by 2030
