The Maharashtra Power Distribution Company Limited has reportedly launched the tender process
for the Ujani Reservoir 1,000 MW floating solar power project.
The project is expected to increase green power availability and prevent evaporative losses from the Ujani Dam, saving approximately 1 TMC of water
per year.
Systems installed on water become colder due to evaporating water compared to solar power projects built on land, which makes them operate
more efficiently compared to projects installed on ground.
The distribution company issued a statement saying that if the project is 1,000 megawatts, water evaporation will be reduced by 6 to 7 percent
.
The project will be installed through 10 different clusters of 100 MW each
.
The state government passed a resolution dated July 20, 2015 to address the national grid-connected renewable energy policy for the development of 14,400 MW of electricity from new and renewable sources in the state
.
It has decided to develop solar power projects with a capacity of 7,500 MW, in which the national power generation company will develop projects with a capacity of 2,500 MW through a public-private partnership model, of which 10% will implement water bodies
where lakes, water departments or local government agencies are available along the canal.
In addition, the remaining 5,000 MW of capacity will be developed
by other developers.
MSEDCL invited tenders
for floating solar projects.
The deadline for applications for tenders is until
28 January 2019.
