Last year, Masdar announced that it would build renewable energy projects in Egypt as part of
its plans to expand its market to the Middle East and North Africa.
Masdar's special project has been announced, with Masdar leasing a total of 30,000 kWh of capacity
to Egypt.
These include large-scale energy storage hybrid solar projects and off-grid solar power systems
with storage functions.
The largest project in this plan is located in Siwa, with a capacity of 10,000 kilowatts
.
The project can produce more than 17.
5 million kilowatts of electricity per year, meeting 30% of the local electricity demand
.
Another six projects with a combined generation capacity of 20,000 kW are also in use
.
Existing fossil fuel power generation systems are already equipped with solar panels to create a solar-fossil fuel hybrid power generation system
.
The capacity of these projects ranges from
0.
5 MW to 0.
6 MW.
Masdar told the media that the project can save the cost of fossil fuel consumption and transportation, reduce the risk of rising fuel prices and supply shortages, and greatly reduce carbon dioxide emissions
.
ACWA and Masdar signed an agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company to develop 2 million kilowatts of renewable energy production capacity, of which 1.
5 million kilowatts of electricity come from solar energy and 500,000 kilowatts from wind energy
.
The two companies hope to open the road
to electric energy development with the construction of 200,000 kilowatts of solar photovoltaic power plants.
Masdar Group is also building 7,000 off-grid solar power systems
in remote areas of Egypt that are not electrified.
The system, which includes two solar panels, two batteries, and two days of energy storage and lighting, has been installed
in homes, mosques, clinics, schools and community centres.
