Recently, the research team of silkworm microsporidium in the National Key Laboratory of Silkworm Genome Biology of Southwest University, in collaboration with the relevant research team of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the United States, discovered the mechanism of microsporidium polar tube infestation.
this is the first original study of polar protein receptors in the field of microsporidium research in 100 years, which is important for the final analysis of microsporidium's infestation mechanism.
According to biotechnology, microsporidium is a kind of pathogens that can infect silkworms, fish and humans, which will cause great economic losses to silkworm farming, fisheries and animal husbandry, and pose a serious threat to human health.
, the first author of the paper, led by Han Bing, a doctoral student at Southwest University, Zhou Zeyang, a professor at Southwest University, and Louis Weiss, a professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, co-authored the original research paper, "The Role of Microsporidium Polar Tube Protein 4 in the Process of Infecting Host Cells," published online in PLoS Pathogens, an authoritative international journal of pathogenology.
The paper details the identification of microsporidium polar protein 4 (PTP4) and its interaction with the host surface receptacle protein, transhelin receptacle 1 (TfR-1), and suggests that the microsporidium's poles invade the molecular mechanism of the host cells by the intraocation of the host TfR-1 receptacle, and will find a way to treat silkworms, fish and human-related diseases.
