"The new crown epidemic has witnessed the progress and promotion of China's food industry. The outbreak will eventually end, but the three trends it brings are irreversible: digitalization, health transformation, and multidisciplinary cross-integration of food. At the 17th annual meeting of the China Food Science and Technology Association held today, Professor Meng Suho, President of the China Food Science and Technology Association, said in a speech that the golden period of rapid development of China's food industry has passed and more enterprises will focus on the scientific and technological support of health products and the improvement of high value differentiation in the next five years.
2020, an outbreak hit the food upstream and downstream industrial chains hard. "The reality is so unpredictable, but it is in the sudden outbreak that China's food industry highlights the maturity, strength and rapid build-up of its industrial chain, supply chain, the characteristics of modern industry that releases strong production capacity, and clearly reflects the food industry as the people's livelihood industry's new needs, emergency response, disaster relief strategic positioning." Meng Suho said.
data show that from January to August 2020, China's food industry grew by 0.32% with 5.08 trillion yuan of industrial output. "It's tough, but this growth is already very high-profile in China's economy. The food industry grew at a profit margin of 7.32 per cent, up 8 per cent year-on-year and 12.4 percentage points more than the average growth rate of China's industrial economy. Meng Suho said.
In Meng Suho's view, the fundamental support for China's food industry is not afraid, derived from the equipment level to automated production line 2.0, solidified the scientific basis of food safety and from price competition to value competition of the healthy transformation, as well as diversified innovation products to maintain a healthy, safe, delicious, high-value food quality. "In the 20 years since science and technology and industry began to connect, optimizing the development environment and quality of the food industry, and the outbreak has become an acceleration period to demonstrate and drive these important upward trends, witnessing our progress and improvement."
the future of the food industry, Meng said the outbreak has profoundly affected the present and future of China's food economy. "For the food industry, what matters is not the trend but the shift in research trends, and the outbreak will eventually end, but the three changes it brings are irreversible, with distinct technology-intensive features in digitalization, health transformation, and multidisciplinary cross-integration of food."
Meng Suho believes that technology is the driving force and force supporting the rapid changes in the industry. In the next five years, enterprises will focus more on the scientific and technological support of health products and the promotion of high-value differentiation, more food categories will be inspired to be born, leading enterprises will increase the basic investment in scientific research. "The golden period of rapid development of China's food industry has passed, it is the inevitable of our thick and thin hair, china's food industry for the future firm footsteps." Meng Suho said.
