October 26th, the "Million Micro-Ecology" International Cooperation Program (MMHP) was officially launched at the 14th International Genomics Congress (ICG-14) in Shenzhen, with Chinese scientists will cooperate in microbial macrogenome research, aiming to sequence and analyze 1 million microbiome samples from organs such as the intestines, mouth, skin and reproductive tract over the next three to five years, mapping the body's microbiome and building the world's largest database of human microbiomes.
At the launch ceremony, Professor Lars Engstrand, Director of the Translational Microbiome Research Center of karolinska Medical College in Sweden, Liu Ruixin, researcher of the Shanghai Ruijin Hospital-China National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases, and Wang Jian, co-founder and chairman of Huada Group, delivered speeches and jointly announced the launch of the plan.
MMHP is currently the world's largest international micro-ecological research program, jointly organized by the Karolinska Institute of Medicine in Sweden, the National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases in China, the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, the Danish University of Technology, the Hong Genomics Institute of the French National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Latvian Institute of Molecular Biology and the Institute of Life Sciences of Huada in Shenzhen. Launched with the aim of mapping human microorganisms of different races, ages, genders and health conditions through the DNBSEQTM microbial macrogenome sequencing technology provided by Huada Zhizhi, and establishing a baseline of micro-ecological research at the level of large-scale populations, thus promoting cutting-edge translational medicine research in the field of human micro-ecology.
"By studying the normal and pathological state of the human microbiome on a larger scale, the changes before and after disease treatment, and analyzing its mechanisms of action on human metabolism and health, it will provide more possibilities for new therapies in metabolic diseases, tumors, reproductive health and newborns in the future," Liu said at the launch ceremony. Lars Engstrand also said: "Million Micro-Ecology' will complete a million sample-scale map of human microbes, which will provide a solid data base for current micro-ecological research. It
that the Huada Institute of Life Sciences will provide the corresponding research platform and analytical resources for the 200,000 samples in the project. Xu Xun, CEO of Huada Group and Director of Huada Life Sciences Research Institute, said that the human microbiome is closely related to individual health. However, despite the large number of scientific papers published by scholars around the world in this field, there is still a lack of large-scale, standardized open databases and research sharing frameworks for the human microbiome, which greatly limits research and exchange in this field. The construction of the world's largest database of human microbiomes through MMHP, a super-large-scale research program, will strongly promote basic research and international exchanges in this field, and will be of great significance to the subsequent industrialization application.
, mmHP has completed the macro genome sequencing of the first 10,000 samples, relying on Huada Zhi's sequencing technology and platform. The data were obtained from micro-ecological analysis carried out jointly by the Chinese National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases, the Karolinska Medical College of Sweden, the Macro Genomics Research Institute of the French National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Huada Institute of Life Sciences, and the data quality was unanimously recognized by the academic community, laying the foundation for the mapping of the human microbiome map of the next 100,000 and 1 million samples.
, all data from the MMHP project will be stored and researched in strict compliance with international data security regulations. In addition, MMHP has announced its public mailbox (mmhp@genomics.cn), welcoming further exchanges and cooperation between relevant institutions to jointly promote research and application in the micro-ecological field.
