Paint formulations consist of paint-based, pigments, solvents and additives, which play a very important role, even at low doses. Each additive is important for the function of the final coating. Some of the main properties that additives can achieve are wetting and dispersion, deblgation, anti-sinking, anti-flow hanging, flow and leveling.
looking for some additives for a particular function, paint manufacturers may find that they are experimenting with many different additives. Indirect problems include controlling inventory, monitoring quality parameters, increasing costs, and so on. This allows researchers to develop multi-functional additives that enable many of the desired performance with one product -- avoiding many of the problems listed above.
PAT-ADD DA1666 is the result of this effort. It provides a sustainable solution, versatility and compatibility with different solvent-based systems.
    multi-purpose additives are
PAT-ADD DA1666 is a pigment wetting dispersant for solvent-based construction and industrial coatings. It is also used as a polar resuspension agent to provide excellent gel action in organic benthic soil, and it is also a capacity booster, antiflower and anti-sinking agent. This polymer dispersant is well compatible with a variety of substrates in solvent-based systems, including polyurethane systems, epoxy resin systems and aolic acid systems.
    Important Features
This additive provides several important properties, including excellent wetting and dispersion of fillers, inorganic, organic and reactive pigments such as zinc oxide, and is also an effective dispersant that moisturizes abrasive pigments at temperatures as low as 15 degrees C. It also reduces the viscosity and grinding time of the slurry, is used as a compatibility agent, and has good anti-flow and anti-sinking effect, thus improving stability.
    Performance Study
    High-efficiency Dispersant
PAT-ADD DA1666 has an effective pigment affinity group that can be adsorbed on various types of pigments, such as reactive, inorganic, organic and fillers. Dispersants reduce the viscosity of the abrasive slurry, resulting in reduced particle size and reduced grinding time. It works at low add-ons and provides low slurry viscosity for optimum color strength, cover, improved paint film gloss and efficient low-temperature abrasiveness (from 15 degrees C).
    two-part iron-red phosphate zinc primer
a versatile additive that shows excellent wetting and pigment dispersion in two-part polyurethane primers that use zinc phosphate pigments. The results show that the viscosity of the slurry can be reduced and the grinding time can be shortened (Table 1).
Iron erythroid acid zinc phosphate primer
this additive is very compatible with alicyl resin, which is conducive to the wetting and dispersion of pigments, and provides a low paste viscosity and shortens grinding time (see Table 2).
    paint system
in use with acetic acid resins, epoxy resins and polyurethane direct grinding systems has also achieved good results due to its excellent compatible. Figure 1 shows that the white paint obtained by using this additive in different resin systems has better brightness, low yellowness index and good gloss value.
same trend has been observed for alkalic acid and epoxy coating systems, with higher brightness, low yellowness index and good gloss values after using the additive. Viscosity studies have shown that PAT-ADD DA1666 has the ability to reduce the viscosity of the slurry and improve grinding efficiency (Table 3).
    color
this additive also solves the pigment float problem. In co-grinding systems, different types of pigments are used to obtain colored coatings of different colors, such as organic, inorganic and black pigments. The strong pigment affinity group on the multi-function additive hinders the pigment's appendage and anti-floating color (Figure 2).
    the improper mixing between
colorants and coatings causes pigments to sink from the paint-based system, resulting in poor color formation and pigment flocculation during film formation. Figure 3 shows flocculation in the co-grinding of black and white pigments in polyurethane systems, and the role of Pat Add DA 1666 as a capacity booster.
additives occupy adsorption points on pigments/body pigments, thus preventing the loss of stabilizers on colorants and creating good compatibleity with the coating system. The detailed rationale can be found in Figure 4.
    anti-flow
multi-functional and multi-compatible additives are resistant to flow-onting in epoxy, polyurethanes, alcoholic acids and other solvent-based coatings and applications. Even though it has a lower viscosity than the conventional additive samples used in Figure 5, it still provides the coating with good anti-flow properties.
    long-term stability
the test results obtained with aolic acid primer show that the new additive does not separate and subside in the primer, which can provide good long-term storage stability for the coating. Pigment affinity groups present on the additives can easily fix pigments, forming a strong bond between them, thus providing excellent stability for the coating (Figure 6).
    conclusion
based on test results, PAT-ADD DA1666 took coating performance to the next level. Gives a variety of solvent-based systems maximum pigment wetting dispersion, excellent anti-flow, but also to prevent subsidon and enhance stability. The addition of this additive improves the coating performance of anti-corrosion primers and solves flocculation and color formation problems. These properties make PAT-ADD DA1666 a potential solvent-based coating additive that not only helps save costs, but also provides a one-stop solution without inventory-related barriers.
