NASA has discovered some 60,000-year-old ancient life in cave crystals, according to foreign media reports.
more than a year, Penelope Boston, director of NASA's Institute of Cosmology, and her team have been searching for extreme creatures at the Naica mine in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
the cave's capacity is staggering, and some are even as large as a church.
's Aika cave is filled with huge columns of plaster crystals.
scientists found about 100 different microbes, mostly bacteria, inside the crystal column.
are about 10,000 to 60,000 years old, 90 per cent of which are unprecedented.
scientists say: "They show us that living things can use natural matter in unexpected ways.
they can survive even in an environment that lacks organic matter.
they live in high temperatures and live on inormatic minerals and compounds.
history of human evolution may also be relevant.
