19, 2020 /--- LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, led by Dr. Si-Qiong Liu, a professor of cell biology and anatomy, has found surprising interactions between chemicals in the brain that cause accelerated loss of cell communication that regulates brain molecules.
team's findings were published in the journal Nature Communications.
researchers studied rodent models and found that the release of the amino acid γ-amino butyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter, accelerates the breakdown of cannabinin in the brain.
cannabinin is a naturally occurring molecule that regulates the way brain cells communicate, and endo-cannabinin dysfunction can lead to neurological disorders.
(Photo Source: www.pixabay.com) found that GABA upsets this delicate balance.
endo-cannabinin is closely related to multiple aspects of emotional memory processing, the researchers found that the formation of memory through fear regulation selectively accelerates their weakness in the small brain.
findings reveal potential therapeutic targets that regulate endolyn cannabinin degradation rates and provide effective ways to change behavior.
Liu said: "Endo-cannabinin controls emotional behavior.
" learning increases the release of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which is the cause of changes in endogenetic cannabinin degradation.
this form of plasticity leads to the formation of fear memories.
our findings suggest new mechanisms for endo-cannabinin signaling physiological regulation and regulating emotional behavior.
