According to Reuters in The Hague on June 27, the Groningen atmospheric field will produce less natural gas this year than initially expected
this year as the Dutch government strives to end natural gas extraction in the Netherlands' Groningen atmospheric field in the next 10 years due to earthquake risks.

In the year ending October 2018, gas production from the Groningen gas field has fallen to between 19 billion and 20 billion cubic meters, which is below the initial cap of 21.
6 billion cubic meters this year and down from 24 billion cubic meters
last year, the Dutch gas industry regulator said on Wednesday.

The Dutch government said in March that the Netherlands would completely stop gas production from the Groningen atmospheric field by 2030 to minimize the risk
    of earthquakes in the region.

As a first step, the Dutch government has committed to reducing annual gas production from the Groningen field to less than 12 billion cubic meters as soon as possible in the coming years, as this level of production will significantly reduce the risk
    of earthquakes.

Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs Kemp recently said that the Netherlands can reach this level by 2020, mainly by transferring large industrial users from the Groningen atmospheric field
    .

But the Dutch National Mineral Watchdog (SodM) said on Wednesday that the Dutch government would do more to ensure that this is achieved
    .
The Dutch government will provide financial incentives to large industrial users in the short term and eventually ban them from using Groningen gas
    entirely.
