    Researchers at the University of Cork (UCC) SFI Energy, Climate and Ocean Research Center MaREI, in collaboration with international research partners, conducted the first detailed global assessment of the power generation potential of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) technology


    Due to improved deployment capabilities and reduced costs, rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies, such as rooftop solar panels used in homes, commercial and industrial buildings, are currently the fastest deployed power generation technology and are expected to provide global electricity by 2050 25-49% of demand


    The research team included lead author Siddharth Joshi, UCC colleagues Professor Brian ó Gallachóir, Dr.


    The author found that at a cost of US$40-280 per MWh, a global power generation potential of 27 kWh per year can be achieved, with Asia, North America and Europe having the largest power generation potential
