    Author: Dr.

New research based on artificial intelligence algorithms enables scientists to create more complete models of human protein structures, paving the way for faster design of treatments and vaccines

This research led by York University uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help researchers learn more about the sugars that surround most of the proteins in our bodies

Up to 70% of human proteins are surrounded or scaffolded by sugars, which play an important role in the appearance and behavior of proteins

To study proteins, the researchers developed a software that can add missing sugar components to the model created by AlphaFold

     Senior author, Dr.

"The AlphaFold method for protein structure prediction has the potential to revolutionize the workflow of biology, allowing scientists to understand the effects of proteins and mutations faster than ever before

"However, the algorithm does not consider the basic modifications that affect the structure and function of the protein.

The recent introduction of AlphaFold and the corresponding protein structure database enable scientists to accurately predict the structure of all known human proteins
