Neanderthals have the same hearing as you |
Researchers have built a 3D model of the ears of ancient people.
Perhaps, ancient humans already had hearing similar to ours.
Recently, researchers through computed tomography (CT) scans and a hearing bioengineering model of the Neanderthal’s outer middle ear found that Neanderthals once had hearing and speech abilities similar to those of humans.
Due to the lack of written and sound recordings, there is a big gap in our knowledge of the language ability of extinct ancient humans.
Mercedes Conde-Valverde, University of Alcala, Madrid, Spain, and colleagues performed a virtual reconstruction of the published fossil samples, and then tested the sound transmission ability of Neanderthals’ ears, and reconstructed what Neanderthals might hear and emit Sound range.
However, the researchers reminded that having anatomical "hardware" similar to human pronunciation does not necessarily mean that Neanderthals also have the same "software" mentally as modern people.
